This year we will:
Identify the main idea and retell key details in the text.
To retell stories using key details and demonstrate understanding of their central message.
Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
Use place value concepts to represent amounts of tens and ones and to compare two-digit numbers.
Represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction within 20.
Compose and distinguish between two- and three- dimensional shapes based on their attributes.

Reading is more than just words on a page.
Good readers identify characters, settings, and major events in a story in order to understand literary texts.
Essential Questions
What should I do if I don’t know a word?
What details can I use to describe a person, place, thing, or event?
How Can I use complete sentences to ask and answer questions?

The base-ten number system is a way to organize, represent and compare numbers using groups of ten and place value.
Mathematical operations are related and used to solve problems.

How are addition and subtraction related?
What solid shapes have curved parts?

Homework
Homework worksheets will be given Monday – Thursday.
Daily Reading Log: Will be sent home every Monday
to promote daily reading at home. Please send it back the following Monday.
I encourage that you help your children with their
homework, but please let them complete their work
as independently as possible. This will allow me to better
assess what they understand and what they might need more instructional time with.

each student will have their own login to read books
at their reading level & take comprehension quizzes.
with each book & quiz completed they earn stars that
can be used to build a robot.
